Day 1 Thesis Map

Do I have to do this thesis map alone?

Do Now: Brainstorm how one - or both - of the following quotations from David Lodge's The Art of Fiction relates to at least one of your primary sources.

"It has been said that all novels are essentially about the passage from innocence to experience, about discovering the reality that underlies appearances."

"[The point of so much literature] is indeed to reveal in an interesting way the gap between appearance and reality, and to show how human beings distort or conceal the latter."

Today's Learning Target:
I will be able to apply appropriate pre-writing strategies to the development of a thesis discussing all three of my primary sources.

I will know that I have hit the learning target when...
-I can use materials from earlier thesis assignments to brainstorm connections among my three primary sources.
-I can select a focus for my argument that takes into account method and meaning.

Agenda:

  1. Working towards a thesis statement
  2. Thesis as claim (types of claims)
  3. Independent pre-writing and conferencing

Small Daily Task: SS5/SS6 Posts (the last posts!!!) are due Thursday.
