Day 6 NO EXIT

"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."
Do Now: Existentialism in popular song (Pink Floyd's "Time," Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone," Joni Mitchell's "Black Crow," The Eagles' "Hotel California," The The's "This is the Day," The Beatles' "Nowhere Man," etc.)

Using one of the suggested songs (or one that you select), consider a connection it has to existentialism or No Exit

Today's Learning Target:
I will be able to explore the setting and the symbols in the play and connect Sartre's choices to existentialist ideas (the absurd, existence precedes essence, choice, responsibility, etc.).
I will know that I have hit the learning target when...
-I can describe important features of the setting and the objects used as symbols.
-I can explain how at least one of the symbols or elements of the setting connects to an existentialist idea.

Agenda:
  1. Existentialism in Popular Song
  2. Setting and Symbolism in No Exit
  3. Continuing the play
  4. No exit ticket: Which existentialist concept is most clearly addressed in the play so far? How so?

HW:  Begin searching for more secondary sources. They needn't address just one of your primary sources.
